About
As part of the Journey to Inclusion programme, I produced a short promotional video highlighting the introduction of disability football at Ingles FC in North West Leicestershire.
Journey to Inclusion is a national initiative designed to support grassroots clubs in creating disability football provision, helping more disabled players access the game in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
The film shares the story through interviews with coaches, parents and players, alongside footage captured during one of the club’s sessions. It showcases how the programme has quickly grown at Ingles FC, with more than 40 disabled children now regularly taking part in football sessions.
Production Approach
For this project I led the full video production process, from planning the story and interview structure through to filming and editing the final film.
I visited the club to capture one of the sessions, interviewing coaches, parents and players involved in the programme while also filming supporting footage of the training environment and activities taking place. Filming was captured using a Sony ZV-E10 camera to ensure high quality visuals, with the final film edited in Adobe Premiere Pro.
The storytelling approach focused on authenticity and capturing the enjoyment of the sessions. Rather than relying on narration, the film is driven by the voices of those involved in the programme, with interviews providing insight into the motivation behind the project. Natural footage of players taking part in football helps showcase the positive and welcoming environment created by the club.
As this project focused on disability football, accessibility was a key consideration during the edit. High contrast, partially sighted friendly subtitles were added to ensure the content could be easily understood by viewers who may be deaf, hard of hearing or visually impaired. This also allows the film to be watched and understood without sound across social media platforms.
The aim was to create an engaging film that reflected the real experiences of the players while demonstrating how inclusive grassroots football can have a meaningful impact within a community.
impact
The documentary helped raise awareness of the Journey to Inclusion programme and the work being delivered by Ingles FC to create opportunities for disabled players in grassroots football.
The film received more than 8,000 combined views across Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube and LinkedIn, helping reach a wide audience across the football community.
Following the release of the film, more than 30 members of the football community signed up to the Journey to Inclusion programme. The initiative supports grassroots clubs by providing the knowledge and skills needed to introduce disability football provision within their own teams and environments.
By showcasing the story of Ingles FC, the documentary demonstrated how clubs can create inclusive opportunities in practice, encouraging more teams to develop disability football provision within grassroots football.
Fantastic video and editing which showcased our club
